Wow, we’ve had a busy couple of media weeks:

My project, ChronicBabe.com, was profiled today in the Ocala Star-Banner

Scott Robbin was quoted in a story about Songza in the New York Times and was featured in the Chicago Tribune

Strange Closets has featured Amy Karatz twice. Yup, twice!

Lidia Varesco was featured as Guest Designer of the Friday Download on the The Blah, Blah, Blahg

A bunch of publications have featured Jackie Sloane in recent weeks, like the Chicago Tribune, the Red Eye, Newsday, and once again in the Trib. You go girl!

Elizabeth McQuern is in a Time Out Chicago article talking about her decision to shut down

…and if I left anyone off, please do let me know and I’ll add you to the list! I love to spread the word about the good work our fellow ideXchangers are doing, and - members - please feel free to post your own stories when you have media coverage.

Are you an emerging Chicago author looking for promotions? The city would like to sell your donated books. Please contact Danielle Chapman, director of publishing industry programs, at danielle.chapman@cityofchicago.org. For deets, check out a longer post at Litterateur. Good luck, please tell Danielle I sent you, and be sure to post here how it turns out so we may all benefit!

Hi folks, sorry to keep changing the meeting dates - but things are a little wacky for me right now and i don’t want to keep missing meetings…so, we have a new date for the august meeting: august 21.

AND we have a possible exciting new location, which i hope to announce officially in a few days. yay!

While we adore Linda and her lovely house (and her lovely dog Butch), we’re in need of a more neutral meeting space option. We’re looking for a space that:

  • will let us meet monthly and has guaranteed room for 10-15 people each time
  • won’t charge us an arm and a leg (my guess is most folks would be OK with buying an appetizer or drink)
  • has air conditioning for summer months
  • has parking, or street parking nearby
  • is wheelchair accessible
  • and is welcoming and comfortable.

Libraries are out (we’d have to open the meetings to the public); coffee houses are OK if they can guarantee the space (which Starbucks won’t). Restaurants will be tough, as they’ll charge us for dinner…but maybe folks would OK with that.

I would like to hear your ideas and opinions, but a little more than that: I would LOVE if folks would make a phone call or two. It’s a lot of research for one person to handle, so if you’ve got an idea, do a little homework and then fill me in.

Thanks!

You might not have noticed, but a few of our members are doing some pretty cool stuff online.

Matt Mayes has launched Give Good Web, a site for “web development ‘n stuff” the content of which is mostly over my head but whose design is gorgeous. You can pick your own color, and one of the options is orange? How can I not love that!

Amy Lillard is going blog-crazy over at her new site, Quiet Rebel Writer. I don’t know where she gets the time to write all those terrific articles AND server her clients but I’d like to know her secret. It’s my new favorite writing blog.

Andrew Huff’s creation, Gapers Block, just got a redesign that made it even better. And with all the new blogs like Drive Thru, Transmission and Tailgate, there’s enough to keep you busy for days.

I’m guessing more of you have cool new projects that I don’t know about yet, so chime in. What’s new for you?
