I recently came across Buy Green at OfficeDepot.com, a section dedicated to “green” office products. It got me thinking that, with a little effort, we could all implement environmentally-friendly office policies. Around Earth Day, I was inspired to compile a list of Green/Environmental links for my website. Now it’s your turn… how have you made your offices (and/or homes) “greener”?

Not directly related to office life, but there was “interesting article in today’s Tribune”:http://www.chicagotribune.com/features/chi-thu_greenschoolaug23,1,6929910.story about making the college experience for new freshmen more environmentally friendly.

My tip is pretty easy. Shredder, blue bag, and off to the recycle bin.

Reusing paper — instead of throwing out paper printed on only one side I run it through the printer again! Amazing how little I really need to print on a “clean sheet.” Saves money, too!

Another thought: Office Depot will refill your old ink jet cartridges. I’m sure other places offer similar services. And you can drop off used batteries at any Chicago Public Library

I also use recycled ink jet cartridges and use paper on both sides like Helena (despite the warnings that came with my printer….use both sides and your printer will die). And I’m trying, as much as possible, to print less and pdf and backup more. Seems to be working.

Our office fortunate enough to have paper recycling, and I collect cans separately from the rest of our trash to be set next to the dumpster, where can collectors will find them and take them to a scrap yard. Post a comment
