E-mail management is a topic of interest to all … I’ll start with a couple of sources:

I saw an interview segment on The Today Show last month with David Shipley and Will Schwalbe, authors of a new book, Send: the official guide to email for office and home. The authors shared these tips:

- Send email you’d like to receive.
- Be aware of inappropriate informality.
- Ask yourself, “Do I really need to send it?”
- Change your subject line.
- When writing to someone for the first time, be short and specific.
- Consider including a message: No reply necessary.

My friend Jack Vinson, a knowledge management consultant, has a great blog and has provided a number of resources on email management.

So … how are you managing your email?

Good topic, Noreen. Since I’m way too “attached” to my email, I’m trying to only respond to those that require responses, i.e. not firing off a “got it” or “thanks” unless absolutely necessary.

I also delete any emails that have been in my inbox for more than 2 weeks…generally newsletters that I just don’t have time to read.

And when I’m writing or doing research and don’t want to be interrupted, I quit my email until I’m through.
