Hi folks, short and sweet this week: How do you boost your creativity, especially in times of stress? It’s hard to feel like producing something fun, interesting or exciting when you feel pressure (from clients, from the clock, from yourself).

So - how do you boost your creativity when you feel it flagging?

A few things that keep me going: music, books, art… I download new songs on iTunes, browse a bookstore, do some sketching. I also find that making a handmade gift (I just made custom onesies for my new-parent friends) also boosts my creativity, since it’s not a “work” project.

I’ll page through magazines, look through the tickler files I save for just this reason, revisit some of the websites I’ve bookmarked with interesting visuals, go for a walk (almost always works), listen to some good jazz, or just leave my office for a while. If I’m really stuck, I might resort to mindmapping to see if anything new comes up. If none of the above work, I’ll shut off my Mac and turn off the light. Sometimes taking a break is all you need.
