Sometimes we just need to take a vacation, even if it’s just a mini-vacation of a day or two. Heck, even an hour or two. Yesterday, I had a pretty long, frustrating day, and closed my home office door for a couple hours and watched a movie. I also spent a little alone time with my iPod, just listening to the music loud enough so I couldn’t hear the phone. I want a week-long beachy vacation; I would only afford to spare a couple hours, which I did. So, how do you unplug?

Jenni, you can’t beat getting outside, but I’m also with you on plugging in to unplug. I’ve used my iPod to do guided visualization on public transit and at night before falling asleep.

I’m another iPod tune in, tune out devotee. Soft classical music or contemplative sounds work for me. I’m partial to the prayer chants of Tibetan Buddhist monks. I don’t understand a word but the sounds help relax my mind.

I don’t have an iPod (how’d that happen?), but I go out and take a walk along the lake. Or I’ll take out my beads and make some jewelry. I’m thinking of turning off my e-mail and just checking it 2x a day if I can because I’ve realized I waste way too much time on it.

For me, playing music is like a mini-vacation. It gives the linear part of my brain a rest. I’m also a fan of walking by the lake, though I do not get there nearly enough. Finally, this may sound weird, but going to the gym also allows me to check out from the real world for an hour — and returns me to it better equipped to deal. And then, there’s always Animal Planet. Better than a fish tank… I’m with Rickey on the email, whew, what a time suck. Post a comment
