Jack Vinson, knowledge management consultant, who I blogged about in my prior post introducing this topic, has more to say about EMM (email management): “The biggest email management strategy: Inbox Zero. It’s a clear goal and a wonderful feeling when it happens. The more frequently, the merrier. Just think if I could do it at the end of every day.” Jack shared a new term: “bacn.” He says: “It’s not quite important mail, not quite spam. But something you only want to deal with when you want it - it shouldn’t interrupt you. Usually things like mailing list mail.” Also, check out Jack’s latest post on the topic of overload (mostly RSS-related). He likes the thinking around “why” we are getting more and more of a problem.
Today’s Small Biz Resource has a good, “quick read” article called The 10 Biggest Mistakes Freelancers Make, and How to Avoid Them. While most of these are not new, I did find one that I occasionally forget. So I thought I’d share it with the group.
There’s a great web site where you can share your reading tastes with other people. It’s called Shelfari. Warning, it is addictive! But I think it has potential for information sharing. Similar to LinkedIn, you have to invite friends, though anyone who wants to look at your list may do so. So far I like it.
E-mail management is a topic of interest to all … I’ll start with a couple of sources: I saw an interview segment on The Today Show last month with David Shipley and Will Schwalbe, authors of a new book, Send: the official guide to email for office and home. The authors shared these tips: - Send email you’d like to receive. My friend Jack Vinson, a knowledge management consultant, has a great blog and has provided a number of resources on email management. So … how are you managing your email? |
